The plastic tail gate handle on my 2000 Ranger snapped. Is there an aftermarket metal replacement available? Is there a home made fix that would work better than the plastic one?

You might try LMC Truck. I don't have a current catalogue but you can bring them up on line.

That reminds me, I have not recieved a catalog for a while either.

i just got a new one that said now updated to 2011 models.

i had previously gotten my first one like a month before i got this one ( luckily the first got rained on and the dog decided he liked the cover.)

I just found they have a steel replacement. Is it any good though?

My 99 Ranger XLT is metal. I did not know they used plastic handles on the Rangers before. I have 2 buddy's who have a 2003 and a 2006 and they are both metal. That is confusing. I see them on Ebay new. Maybe go there and look. I have never had to replace one on any of my trucks. I had to replace a tailgate cable once on my 95 Ranger.

The stock handle on my '01 was plastic. I got a new one from the dealer. Going by the VIN # they sent me another plastic one... $24.

List was $36-38, IIRC. With the discount through work.. $24.xx. It was a few bucks more then the aftermarket Dorman replacement (And it was delivered within 2 hours of the phone call.)

plastic on the 97
