the one wheel spin of death

aussie>lock-rite IMO.. i've had both.
spartan>aussie IMO to... but what does my opinion matter? lol

that's funny, because i've gone 3 wheeling several times in my ranger with my stock l/s diff, it's no locker, but i still got through just fine...

actually... i did the obstacle you see at the end of this video, took the same line as the FJ, the only pics i have are below..

check out the axle droop? who says you can't flex a torsion bar truck? lol

all i see there is rear axle flex....

the second pic... look at the LCA angles, and look at the gap above the wheels, none on the drivers, about 6" on the pass

ok.. i'm thinking the driver is stuffed slightly and you have a little droop on the passenger. doesn't look like much in either direction.
what angle are they at ride height?

fairly close to the passenger... i'll see if i can find a pic...

i don't actually remember this picture, not where it was taken... i remember the day, and i remember the area, but no idea where on the trail
keep in mind in this picture, i've got my bumper on, so it looks like i've got less wheel well

regardless... that pic above is not axle droop if that's a similar angle of your ride height.. that's all i'm saying.
guess i just don't understand flex lol. i know mine don't flex... try out 445 ppi coil springs!

anyways... back on topic.
lsd... is better than open!

Yup no arguing that. I would rather just do it right the first time and get a lock right in there. He's only got 2wd anyways. Might as well make the best of it.
But I guess it all depends on your budget and what terrain you will be throwing at your rig.

flex is overall articulation of suspension... both up AND down... and in my honest opinion, the term flex to me, refers more to up travel, because you are flexing, or stressing the springs, rather than them being in a relaxed state...

but yes, back to topic, if you are planninig on doing a lot of 4x4ing, then you should go with a selectable locker... a little here or there, auto locker... virtually none, l/s, virtually nothing but 4x4, then go spool...

provided of course you are thinking about replacing it... my l/s torsen is just fine for what i need it to do... 4:1 torque bias

up travel doesn't keep a tire from lifting though. that's why most rigs on here stuff whopping 4" (give or take an inch) but have gobs of droop.

to the OP yes, you will notice an ls on a two wheel drive. if you can find one for cheap, buy it. if you can find a locker for cheap, buy it instead.

doesn't mean that it's the only thing that constitutes flex... plus, if i really wanted to, i could design a truck with progressive springs that would have 15" of up travel, without adding weight or anything, and only 4" of droop... just through properly tuning it... though it would be fairly pointless...
