i have an 87 ranger 2.9L with a 5 speed im just wondering i have a shifter thes bent( ractory ) and i am wondering how to get the straigth shifter to match up? i bought one and it is totally different and doesnt not bolt up the same way. just wondering if anyone know what i can do?

reason for the swap is the shifter hits the seat when i shift to 2nd 4th and reverse. plus my shifter bushings are worn out i have 3 inches of play in gear.

The older transmissions, FM-145 I believe had a shifter with an arc in it, where as the newer transmissions FM146 and M5OD have a pretty much straight shifter.

As far as I know, they are not interchangeable.

no they are not. is there anyway to get a straight shifter or am i stuck with this one unless i swap transmissions? or does b&m make an after market one thats longer and more straight? long shot but worth a try. im just sick of my hand hitting the seat. :icon_confused:

You MAY be able to swap the whole top plate/shift tower with an FM146 and get it to work, at least it looked possible from the ones I had laying in the shop but I'm not positive. Otherwise pull your shifter out and bend it straight.

the top half of my transmission looks totally different from the 2 other transmissions that have the striaght shifter. i was thinking of bending it straight but i neeed to replace the shifter with another one of the same anyways to fix the slack problem.

thanks for everybodys help

on those transmissions theres a rubber ball bushing that rides in the cup that the shifter goes int, this is ur play in the shifter, and since it hits the seat im assuming u have a 3' boyd lift...
