Another future project...???!!!!

I thought that I would revive this thread since I just found out from CHKNFKR that the front axle is actually a leaf sprung D50 TTB, (I always thought it was a straight axle but I was wrong), and the rear is a Sterling.

I now know what a D50 front and a Sterling rear are.......:icon_thumby:

I still haven't been able to convince my wifes Uncle that I NEED that ole Ford, but I will never give up....:icon_bounceblue:

Ya if in not mistaken all f-series trucks 80-91 never had a solid front axle and only the 92-97 f-350's has sfa's. My dads 93 250 diesel has the d-50 ttb and that thing rides like a rock each beam has litereally 1/2 inch of up travel before it hits the bumpstop. Good thing about these trucks is that a sas is a bolt up swap. I'm keepin an eye out for a kingpin d-60 with 4.10 gears to put under our 93.

the 350 was always a solid axle. the 250 has flip flopped.

and the 2wd trucks mirrored that. 250s ran tib and 350s ran a monobeam

I'm learning a lot, slowly but surely! It's becoming quite addictive and I have all kinds of thoughts about where to go with my B2.......:shok:

86+ F-350's were solid, otherwise they had the same TTB D50 the 3/4 ton trucks did.

Our '80 F-350 is TTB. :icon_thumby:

Is it possible those years were hit or miss? I've seen a handfull of '80 - '85s around here that were solid. Maybe the solid axle was only offered on a certain package or with certain motors? I suppose the ones i've seen may not have been original equipment...

It is supposed to be an easy swap...

Wikipedia says that they were on select F-350's, all of the ones I have seen are TTB though. Then on the F-series page they say it was a midyear '85 changeover... so I don't know.

Man I wish I could get him to come off of it, my wifes Uncle is one of those people that would rather see it sit there and rot than to let somebody do something with it........:annoyed:

I haven't been able to hound him too much yet because I don't have any cash to flash around, hopefully that will all change by next Fall, plus I still have my wifes Grandaddy on my side, it's in his barn and he wants it gone! :icon_thumby:

The truck division never went out of business, they are called Navistar now. They lost the IH name when they sold it with the ag division.

The ag division was horribly missmanaged for a long time before they were sold, they were only bought for their dealer base and combine line.

I despise looking up parts for IH equipment, they have to have about the most backwards parts lookup known to man...

yeah i know what you mean about looking up ag parts i worked at an IH dealer in parts for two years while i was in high school

and yes the light truck line (one ton and under) declared bankruptcy it was the sales from the light line that funded the reasearch for the heavy duty line which is now Navistar but i often wonder what the world would be like today if there were still an International Truck
