Will a t56 bolt up to 4.0 with the bellhousing from a cobra or will I have to order a bellhousing adapter? I've looked all over the web for info and no luck. And if I can could someone point me to it or to the adapter. Thanks

You'd have to make something custom as I'm not aware of any adapter for that... I don't think it would be worth it either... Actually I think it'd be interesting to see a 4.0L try and pull a 4,000# truck in 6th gear...

Yeah, the M5OD isn't THAT bad. If you really want a T56, then your best bet for an adapter would be to "adapt" the truck to a 5.0L V8. With all the gears to choose from you'd probably get better mileage from the V8 too.

well i was just asking i have a built t56 in my cobra and will be goin auto next year and i was just gonna use my t56 in the truck and buy a built 4r70 for the cobra. its no big deal. if i do a motor swap in the truck itll be a cummins 12v

Hey man, not trying to discourage you. I know where you're coming from. I have in the past questioned Ford's rational for putting a nice low ratio 1st gear in the 4 banger M5OD then socking the V6s with one that can't get the truck moving without slipping the clutch. That's easily fixed by swapping diff gears, but now I want a deeper overdrive to keep up with the yahoos doing 80 on the interstate. It annoys me enough that I've casually contemplated if the gears from the mainshaft of a 4 cyl Ranger trans will fit on the V6 shaft.

2.3/2.5/3.0L M50 guts go in a 4.0L case, only difference is the bellhousing pattern, or you could find a 2.9L M50 and save some trouble...

You'd have to find an adapter for the OHC 4.6 to 4.0L OHV...

I wouldn't bother with the T56... It won't do anything useful really... Good luck fitting a 12V in the Ranger... Its a very erm, BIG motor lol, and heavy...
