I swapped my front coil springs for Skyjackers on my 1992 Ranger Supercab. It's the 4.0 model so I figure if Ford used different spring ratings, this would have had the stiffest springs to start with.

My question is what are my old springs good for? I'd hate to just throw them out if I could save them for another use, or sell them. Would the spring rate be enough to lift the front end of a 4-cylinder truck? Are they compatible with 4wd Rangers? Looked in the tech library and couldn't find this.

Thanks.

Good question. I just bought a 97 4cyl 2wd today, and am planning on lifting it a little. I wondered if 4wd springs would provide any lift over the 2wd springs. Hopefully someone will know this.

correct me if i'm wrong 2wd and 4wd have the same part #s and i believe 4wd get there height from spacers.

The front I think gets its height from being a TTB vs. twin I-beam. The rear gets its height from blocks. I don't know if it's the same part number. What I'm really most curious about is the difference (if any) between 4 cylinder and V6 springs, specifically springs for the 4.0.

Rockauto lists different part numbers for 4wd, LWB, reg cab, A/C, etc.

13 choices for 2.3, 19 selections for 4.0. I didn't compare all the part numbers.

This guy is right about the height difference between the 2wd and 4wd. The 2wd springs and 4wd springs are pretty much the same. I think the real differences are from the engines, I believe the 2.3s and 3.0s use the same springs and the 4.0 is the one that gets the different springs.
