What all is needed for regearing?

I dont have the slightest idea of what I need to regear my truck... or where I would get the gears... Im currently running 35's on 3.73, yes, yes I know its putting a hurt down on my tranny and everything else....

You need a ring and pinion for both front and rear, master installation kits (they include the bearings), and someone who knows how to set gears up properly (a garage charges ASTRINOMICAL fees for this).

Im in the middle of a gear swap right now and I actually bought an extra front and rear axle to rebuild so my truck wont have as much down time. Granted this is a lot more money but in the end, it's well worth it. Plus I'll have rear disc brakes when Im done. (went with an explorer rear axle)

This. And of course new gear oil. Then you have to change it again after about 500 miles. You can get install kits without the bearings for cheaper than master install kit but I wouldnt recommend it. If you are going through all the trouble of new gears you should just go ahead and replace the bearings since youre in there. Its not a big price difference either in the kits. If you have never done gears before I would seriously look into having a shop do it. I paid $400 to have an off road shop do it and that was with me having the new gears and install kit. It took about a day and a half. I was more than happy having them do it though since that is sort of an important thing in your truck. That was to do the rear only though since Im 2wd.

I was very lucky. I have had a buddy do all my gear replacements in my trucks over the past years. I buy the parts and I help him. You have to buy a complete install kit along with the gear of your choice and any extra parts that go along with it. It is expencive to have a shop do it....right at $375-500 for labor and the parts are extra!!!
