so im in the process of building up my credit and i need new tires. so im putting some tires on the card. my driving consists of quite a bit of highway milage some dirt roads and some muddy seasonal roads and fields whenever ive got decent tires on my truck. ive got it narrowed down to a few different ones in a few sizes. actually i found that bigger was cheaper which is strange.
the truck is an 04 edge super cab 2wd 3.0l 4.10 rear with 230 70r16's. first tire is the yokohama geolander ats in 238 85 16 ($133). ive heard this tire doesnt like mud and also wears quick. second up is the kumho kl78 road venture in 265 75 16 ($141), and 3rd is the hankook dynapro atm rf10 in 265 75 16 ($143) credit range is limited to 750 at the moment so i dont want to go too expensive.

Well one thing I can say is that all of the tires you just mentioned are all load E or 10 ply... whichever you prefer and they will be a much heavier and stiffer tire then you will probably want for what you want your truck to do. It will ride much rougher and you will feel the road alot more through your butt, and heavier so it will suck gas more trying to turn heavier tires also reducing performance. They will however offer more puncture resistance if you work on a construction site or something.

Also the sizes you mentioned are massivly bigger then what you currently have.
Your tires are 230 70 R16's (which I haven't seen before, more then likely a 235 70 R16) are equivilent to a 29x9.5R16

235 85 R16 = 32 x 9.5 R16
265 75 R16 = 32 x 10.5 R16
215 85 R16 = 30.5 x 8.5 R16

I would go with a 245 75 R16 or about 30.5x9.5R16 if you want bigger for a few reasons
1. Its a common size and there are plenty of tires to choose from
2. It comes in either standard load or I believe load D or E as well if you feel you really need it.
3.Its a little taller and wider then the tires you currently have on there... but not excessively. If you are goign for bigger though I would stick to a 265 75 R16 in a standard load.

Here are some tires I found in your price range (off tire rack.com so the price may vary a little)

Dunlop Rover A/T - 117$ ea.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T REvo II - 156$ ea. ( I had a set and loved them, wore a little faster then others but great traction all around and one of the top A/T's you can buy)

Firestone Destination A/T - 128$ ea. (the other very highly recommended A/T)

Goodyear Wrangler - 1644 ea.

The Bridgestone, Firestone and Goodyear also come in the 265 size in a standard load.

235/75-16's are a really common tire size on Fords base 3/4 and one ton trucks.

i thought about the 245's but i can get a lot of the tires cheaper in bigger sizes. i dont mind a rough ride as my current tires are rought. i had a set of 10 ply 245's on for a while and didnt mind it as much as my 235 70's i have now. all of the tires i listed are actually p tires and not lt anyways. i think i found anotherone that may be at the top of the list at the moment. goodyear wrangler duratrac from discount tire in the 235 85's 177 each and i wouldnt need to buy snow tires too.

oh and with tire rack id have to pay over 100 bucks for shipping for 4 tires and discount tire is free shipping.

I'd stay away from those Dunlops. My friend's sister had those on her s10 blazer and didn't even get 15k out of them. She replaced them with General A/Ts and got close to 4 times that out of them.

I would suggest the Goodyear Wranglers. I have the cheapo radials on my truck right now and they're fantastic. We also have them on the edge I'm about to get and on our 2001 jeep cherokee sport.

I think I'm gonna put the 265/75/15 (30.7") Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor on the edge when I get it. Has anyone ever used the Silent Armor's before?

Well actually all the tires you listed are lt tires as are the ones i listed, anything with a load range greater then B is an lt tire.

Anyways not here to argue over oooo killed oooo.... Well if your looking in the price range of the Duratracs i would concider the Bridgestone dueler Revo II's in the 265/75R16 like I said before a great all round tire. My second choice would be the Hankook Dynapro ATm's, I really liked the feel of the tires just felt pretty solid and didn't hear a complaint about them.

firestones are great. that's what i have on my b2. in a 245/70r16. they work great for the price and tread pattern.. the only other at's i would consider are bfg's or toyo's... but you know how the price looks on those.

one thing i didnt notice is that the wrangler duratrac's are also rated quite well for deep snow and ice. i live in ny so maybe thats my best option. theyre studdable too so id finally have a use for this hand studder i have.

umm ended up going goodyear wrangler duratracs. 235 85 16. i really like how they ride compared to my 235 70's. you feel the bumps a lot less at 50 psi and they are sexy tires.

She must take corners like a sprint cup driver to only get 15,000 out of them. There are at the minimum 40,000 mile tires. I have 51,000 miles on my OEM Continental Conitracs and so many people say they get 20,000 out of them before needed new rubber. It's all in the way you drive and maintain the tires.

I just replaced a set of goodyear wranglers with a hard 63000 miles on them. They held up great as long as you keep them rotated regularly.

You ride at 50 psi for a ranger? I thought no matter load range of tire 35 was good. Did you do 50 because of tire, or because it actually rides better at that psi? I'd be worried my tires would explode on highway...

actually discount tire had the lowest price for all the tire i looked at and no shipping. it saved me over 120 bucks off the next cheapest place i could find. the guy i had mount them said he couldnt even order them from his supplier that cheap. the tires are rated at a max of 80 psi being a lt 10 ply tire. the shop said 35 was too low so we agreed on 50 cause i dont need 80 in them.
