Where to buy a 3.0 long block?

I need to replace the engine in my truck (Totally seized, can't turn it over with a breaker bar).

Where would you guys recommend buying a re-manufactured long block from? The best deal I have found so far is $1599 on eBay with a $125 core and free shipping.

Its kind of frustrating looking these up because they seem to range from $1200 - $3000 without much of a good reason that I can see.

Also in case you care, its a 2002 3.0 liter automatic "U" engine.

Try finding a low mileage taurus engine. Thats what I did with my 99. Found one out of a 2005 taurus with only 25000 miles for $300. The block and heads are the same. You will just need to switch the head gaskets and use your intake, exhaust, and water pump. Not too dificult. Search car-parts.com to try to find one local. Good luck.

So I just looked on car-parts.com, I do see where I can get an engine quite a bit cheaper ($900 for one with 56k miles on it).

What are peoples opinions here on using a pulled working engine VS buying a re-manufactured long block? I was thinking that starting with a re-manufactured long block I would be starting with basically a new engine, but is there any reason not to go with a pulled engine?

If I did do a pulled engine, what should I do to the engine before installing it?

Depending on shape, fresh oil, flush the coolant passages, new valve cover and intake gaskets. Just make sure everything looks good, new plugs ect.

Im selling a 93 3.0, not sure if its interchangeable because im a older truck guy ahaha, but its in the truck and can see it run, does need a idle air control valve.

Im asking 200 for it.

Yeah, I looked into that, technically you can make the older engine work, but with some mods. This is my first engine swap so I am going to get one from the same series so I don't have to deal with any modifications.

I would definitely do new plugs, wires, etc. Was trying to decide if I would tear down to the valve covers, etc, its not a hard task so I probably would.

I hear ya on that. Id do valve cover gaskets cause just about every ranger/explorer/b2 i see they have leaky valve cover gaskets.

A used engine is perfectly acceptable if it works. Most junk yards will give you some sort of warranty on it.

I'd just reseal the whole engine before putting it in. Then you don't have to worry about oil leaks.

I have one sitting in the back of a truck we are parting out
(the truck has a topper on it)

The engine was a running pull that came out of an
Aerostar so it already has "Truck" (RWD) head gaskets in it.

It is available CHEAP if you wanna come and get it.
