So i was thinking about replacing my Motorcraft spark plugs with some Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs.

I tried those when i had a Tercel and it gave a nice improvement. So i was wondering if anyone has used them on a 4 cyl Ranger and whats the results on them?
Or i should keep using the Motorcraft stuff?

Thanks, RSH

I've used nothing but the +4s on my Ranger for about 8 years...in fact, the set I have in there now is about 6 years old...you can clean them up...but don't try to gap them...well, actually, I've had to do that a few times...only because I bent one of the prongs...

I find them way better than regular plugs...and I've tried pretty much every plug available for my engine...I think I still have a new set of those single platinums somewhere...and with the price of platinum these days I might take them to the junkyard...

I'm not a huge fan of them, but then, I haven't really had a chance to try them out on anything later than a 2.9.

I never use anything but Motor-craft, or Auto-lite, in Fords, but that's just my experience.

I really like my Motorcraft Finewire's - but I personally prefer Motorcraft anything (when it's cost effective).

When platinum plugs were first introduced, I put a set of platinum plugs on the left bank of a 260 cu.in. V-6 engine....

annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd.................

a set of M/C plugs in the right bank........

The platinum plugs lasted 50% longer.

But like he said.....the price of platinum plugs now-a-dazes might cancel out the benefits.......

I would assume OEM was Platinum or Iridium.

My oems? idk what kind they are.
i know my moms 03 uses iridium spark plugs.

buying 8 bosch ones will eat my wallet tho hahaha

I just picked up 8 Motorcraft ones, had some Autolites in there for maybe 50,000 miles or so and one of the electrodes is missing. Who knows if it's still in the engine or it just burned away or what.

$5 apiece at autozone. I remember getting boxes of the damn things for that much.

Use the factory recommended ones, Pancho. Can't go wrong.

Well RSH you may need to think about it. I sell all the major plugs and the SLOWEST seller and requested by customers is Bosch anything. Think about this: BMW, VW, Porsche and Volvo quit using Bosch years ago. 3 of those are mother country makes. They install NGK as OEM now. So if they don't want Bosch in their cars........................

Motorcraft OE, or upgrade to iridium either being a single ground strap. You'll have less of a chance of failure.

I know a lot have had good results from the +4 plugs but considering you can get an Autolite XP that I know will work why take the chance?

The factory plugs might have been coppers. The replacement OEM plugs will be plats.

FYI - Rockauto has the Finewires for mine for about 3 bucks a piece. Autozone wanted 6 a piece here.

I have used the Bosch plats before. Gave my engine a pinging condition under high speed, heavy load. I switched to Motorcrafts finewire plugs and the pinging was gone, and they are plats too.

Pinging? Is that the left half of ponging?

Now that you mention it though...I've definitely got a game of something going on under my hood...good thing I'm mostly deaf...that noise would drive me nuts otherwise...oh, wait, maybe I am nuts...
