Let me just start off by saying thank you for helping before I forget. Maf sensor, O2 sensor, fuel filter, where should I start? Its a 2003 3.0 2wd with 74000 babied miles. The check engine light came on yesterday and Autozone read p0171 and p0174. Not sure if the 118 degree weather has anything to do with it either. The battery is two months old. Thanks again for reading.

Replace your maf, Ford's design of these allows contaminants to build on it easily and it gets ruined. I had p0171 on my 2.5L for at least 3 months before I replaced the MAF. Worked great after that.

Most often this is caused by a vacuum leak.

where should I start?

MAF - clean it, are you using oiled K&N filter or equivalent?; fuel pressure regulator leaking or malfunction; fuel filter; fuel pump - low pressure; fuel injectors; vacuum leak(s), includes PCV system; leak through dip stick seal; exhaust leak before O2 sensor.

I replaced the maf, pcv, o2s, spark plugs, and fuel filter. still didnt want to start. Took it to ford and they want $867 to replace the fuel pump. Said i was running 35 psi and need 60-65 psi. Do i need any special tool to get the pump out? Pulling the bed and getting to it shouldnt be a problem but i read that a special tool is and isnt needed. FML! Any problems with the Airtex pumps or should i get one from ford?
