well im in need of a computer. guy put the battery in wrong. will all the years of the 2.9 ecu's work with each other. of course i know it has to match the tranny. does it matter if its 2wd or 4wd?

what year is yours......all will work but you may have your truck run crappy........ try to make sure you have an auto ecu with an auto and a 5 speed with a 5 speed....unless it is a gen one ranger....also it does not matter with 4 wheel drive

What does that have to do with it? Gen 1s had the A4LD, those were partially computer controlled.

My advice would be to look for an 88 or newer (don't go any older than the year of your truck) computer, for your engine and trans. 88 eliminated some problems and enhanced some of the diagnostic stuff.

isnt a a4ld a auto tranny? cause i have a manual tranny

yeah a4ld is auto.. idk if the computer is different or not..

do some research- or just be safe and find one out of a manual.

The 86-87 A4LD is not controlled the same way by the computer as a an 88-92 A4LD

'86-87 also have EGR on the engine.

an '88 computer will IGNORE the EGR system (this is a good thing)
