    Odd Stalling Issue

My truck is a 98 ranger 4.0 5spd 4x4 supercab (does not have PATS). For a few months now my truck has been stalling under a few circumstances. It started only doing it when I had a passenger and made a sharp right turn, but has gotten worse. With just me in it, it will stall if I hit a hard...

    Yes, a 4x4 issue.

I have a 98 4.0 5spd 4x4 with the electric shift 4wd. I put it in 4hi the other day, and when I went to take it out, it worked, but is now flashing 4hi and 4lo about every 2 minutes. I checked the fuses, and nothing is blown, so I replaced the (original at 185k) shift motor, and still nothing...

    Three years ago...

Three years ago at this moment, I was standing in a ditch in Pennsylvania staring at my truck laying on its side. The truck I had bought only four days before. Since then, I have replaced nearly all of the body panels. I have replaced all of the suspension and brake components. I’ve put 2...

PepBoys to "adjust" Military and Senior discounts...

The genius number crunchers at Pepboys corporate have decided that old people and soldiers aren't worth the extra 10 seconds it takes to enter a discount on Fridays through Mondays. That's right, if you are a soldier or senior citizen, and want to get your 10% discount, Pepboys will only do it...

Front drive shaft CV joint reassembly.

Anyone have any tips on how to re-assemble the cv joint in a front driveshaft? I took it apart to take out my transfer case (which I now gather was a bad idea), and I'm having a hard time getting it back in. Any ideas?

    98 ranger fuel filler neck

Ok, my truck originally had a stepside bed. When I swapped to a fleetside, I cobbled together a fuel filler neck with pieces from the old one and exhaust adapters. Now I finally bought a new one on ebay, and it seems way too short to fit. It looks almost like the stepside one. Were the...

How To: replace broken hood stoppers.

I'm pretty sure it's a common thing for the hood stoppers to break on rangers. Mine have been broken for a long time. Here's how I fixed them: I used a set of Energy Suspension Low Profile Bump Stops (pn# 9.9102GC) and some 3/8 nuts. I welded one nut where the original stoppers went. And...

    stumbling after starting

Sometimes after I start my truck, it stumbles and even sometimes stalls, like it's out of gas. It seems like it almost has to be something related to the fuel pump. Has anyone had this happen before? I know the fuel pressure regulator is in the tank, could it be related to that?

    ECU question

I'm looking for an ecu for my truck (98 4.0 4x4 5spd) And I'm wondering if an ecu for an automatic will work? I know the other way around won't.

    Injector sizes?

You might want to read my other thread first. Alright, after driving about 200 miles on my new injectors, I got a CEL saying it was too rich. I found this site saying that my original injectors (0-280-155-846) flow 12.9 lb/hr, and the ones I put in (0-280-155-700) flow 18.25 lb/hr. Does anyone...

CEL and rough running under 2000rpm

My 98 4.0 is throwing both a PO174 (engine lean, bank 2) and a PO304 (cylinder 4 misfire) code. They usually come back within 5 or 10 minutes or clearing them. The engine seems to rough up to 2000 rpm, and fairly smooth above, but still down on power. I pulled the spark plugs to find that the...

    Which is bank 2?

I'm getting a code saying "System too lean (Bank 2)". And it's running rough, like it's missing, making me think maybe theres a problem with one of the injectors. Anyone know which side is bank two? That'll help me narrow down where I should look.

    My 98 Ranger - the never-ending project

I've posted some random pics here and there, but I figured it was time to put them all togather along with a list of things I've replaced on my truck. I bought this truck in late November 2007 to replace my escort that didn't run too well in the cold. No, I didn't buy the truck because of the...
