here is my front reciever/winch bumper project.....

trying to decide if i want to do "sheet" style bumper ends, or just do a couple tubes?

i will have a skid plate and 2 shackles mounted to it

the side plates are 3/8" thick plate and the reciever is mounted to 4" x 4" x 5/16" thick angle and a smaller angle iron to help support the cradle so as to not "flop" around excessively.

nice looking truck and really nice job on that winch mount!! how about 2x4 rectangular tubing? just something different from all the round tubes everyone uses.

why i was thinking of going "sheet" like this from Fabfours

i know tube would be easier, just not sure with what little space there is outside the side plates if i could make it look ok

If you got the time and skills, go with the armor plate look. Use some 1/8" plate or so for toughness.

how much more weight does that add to the front end? i'm always kinda careful about weight and balances. but that is a really nice looking bumper for sure!!

just something i drew up for a truck. 6x6 in the midle and down to 4x4 on the ends with 2x4 fender gaurds. If you got some ideas throw some dimensions and pencil sketches at me and i can draw it up for you. I was thinking 1/4 plate for bottom and front and 3/16 for the rest but you probly dont want that heavy.

Here is my 10000 lb winch from harbor freight that came with the c-chanel. We welded the 2x2in box tube to the bottom of the tray. Then put the 2x2od solid stock inside, marked it and drilled 2 holes for 2 lock pins. I have large quick disconects on the wire side right behind the lisence plate. That makes my set up easily removed and installed. I can even leave the 2x2 stock attached to the truck and just slide the winch off of it, and then remove the 2x2 od stock from the truck. Doing it that way makes the winch lighter and easier to remove and install.

and i have no problem getting at my reciever either, not to mention i really didn't want my winch mounted that low on the front.
