which one!!

Go with the 88.

Youll have more giddyup from the 2.9, the OD will help mileage....my 86 gets around 20, and like said before the feedback carb is a pain, parts arent really around, and the supply of durasparking stuff has kinda dried up.

OK, here’s a thought. The 88 will crank up but then sputters and dies fuel pump issue?
Check the rail pressure.

If it does start though that seems like the pumps are atleast priming.

Either way even the EFI systems on these are pretty simple once you dig into them a bit.

@Zorm
I suggest disabling the fuel system completely, then perform a 50/50 test. If it runs good on starter fluid (this will require 2 people, to keep misting the fluid in) then you have an fuel system fault. If it still runs bad on starter fluid only then look at it's ignition.

I realize that using the 50/50 test in this manner, is exploiting the gray a bit, so bare that in mind. The ability of the 2nd person to imitate EFI throttle delivery is the key and still a little gray.

If this 1988 isn't running great and your mechanical/troubleshooting abilities/logic are not above average, perhaps holding off for a unit that is a strong running machine, would be prudent.
