Well I have been driving the truck around for a while and the other morning I went to fire it up and it wont start. It sounds different while cranking and it is backfiring through the carb when you hold the throttle open. I pulled the codes and got:

(Its a 85 ranger 2.8 all stock)

14 pickup erratic
18 check base timing
These are the two new codes the rest have been there for a while. Is this something to do with the dizzy? It was running normal when i shut it off last time I drove it. I tried turng the dizzy but it is tight, cap and rotor are good plugs are clean. What should I try? I have a extra dizzy and TFI module of a truck I durasparked a while back. Any Ideas?

Just tried changing the timing, still wont start. I was thinking that the cam gear may have went but if that happened i wouldnt have spark right?

If you lost your cam gear your dizzy shouldn't spin. I would try changing the dizzy out if your rotor has ever come apart. When that used to happen to mine it would leave a lot of small parts in there. They were pretty hard to clean out. If that has happened to yours maybe one got missed? You could pull it and see how hard it is to spin by hand.
