Well with the suggestion of some I decided to replace the switch assembly for the headlights/dimmer assembly but all to no avail. After plugging everything in and testing I still have no illumination lights. Nothing for dash or the climate controls. As I mentioned in my previous post I installed a new radio after this issue reared it's ugly head so I put the factory one back in also to no avail for the dimmer lights where still out. I'm honestly at a loss as this has happened all of a sudden and I don't have any leads now. I could pull the gauge cluster out and probe the plus to see if the appropriate connection is receiving power but I don't think that will give any clues because ALL illumination lights are out not just gauge cluster.
I also mentioned but maybe it didn't get seen that right before this I was attempting to install new license plate lights but had to stop because the previous owners wiring was so terrible I plan on ripping the bed off and redoing most of it (with soldering this time not just twisting the wires together). I originally figured that maybe the license plate lights might be wired through the illumination lights. I heard this was something done on some vehicles to alert the owner that some rear lights where out. But after checking the wiring diagrams I didn't see anything pointing to that.
Maybe the previous owner did however...
Attached are some images with the key in the 'run' position, with the sub dash off, with headlights on and off, and battery re plugged. As seen all other lights work (abs, check engine, etc.) but not the illumination lights. ON the dash or climate controls.
