Uh oh? Part on drain plug magnet.

I just grabbed this from @Shran

That pin that the tensioner foot pivots.

You would have to think there would be other junk in the oil pan though.

Strange!

I don’t have a broken tensioner and not really willing to break this one, sorry. I did, however grab some measurements off of it.

Guide is completely plastic so that probably isn’t it.

the pivot pin would be my guess. Looks to be aluminum. The “head” measures approximately 5/16” or 0.31

Small side. I’m guessing this would actually measure 0.25 or 1/4” but there’s a pretty good dimple to expand it.

other piece (pressure relief?) measures 0.375 or 3/8” on the smaller diameter.

I'd take the timing cover off and check the tensioner becuase I'd kick my own butt if I didn't and it came apart and tore things up.

How could any part of the tensioner make its way inside the engine?

See Uncle Gumps post above with the photo of Shrans engine.

That seems likely

@richard booth

Did you come to a conclusion on what the mystery part is?

No, I have not. Just running fine so going with something that flew into the motor during the build. Thanks a LOT for taking the time to measure all the parts for me. I looked at and measured a tensioner I had and no matching part. Maybe the oil level sensor came apart? But no other anything in the oil I screened. Appreciate your time and consideration, it runs great w good oil pressure.

Thank you!

OK, I figured it out! It is the key that is in the back of the crank shaft gear for the timing chain. I took apart my wife's 2.9 to re cam it and the same little "key" fell off of the crank sprocket. So as long as the dampener is clamped to the gear it holds the gear, but it can fall off of lesser aftermarket gears.
