Hey Guys,

Had to replace the piece you see in the photo, can't recall the name, sorry. It was broken & leaking.

Either way, attached to it was the temp sensor as well & that got broken upon removal.
I bought a new piece from Ford direct. Everything installed, but temp gauge in the floor, no movement :/.
Worked fine the day before, with old temp sensor.

I have bought a new aftermarket unit to try from autozone, to try and see if possibly the Ford unit is faulty?

Any other thoughts, ideas, tips to try?

P. S. I bled the system as best I could. Should be pretty good.

There are TWO temp devices on the engine
ECT Sensor, for the computer only, always TWO wires
Temp SENDER, for the dash gauge only, can use one or two wires

In your first picture at 1:00 is the ECT sensor

So the SENDER should be the one that broke that you replaced.
Most parts store will give you a SENSOR first time out, and it won't work with dash gauge, needs to be a SENDER.
It will have a CYLINDER tip, sensors have CONE tip.

Also if a SENDER has just one wire then you must leave some bare metal threads so it can GROUND to the fitting, and in this case the fitting also needs to GROUND to the Engine.
So you can use sealing tape, but leave end threads BARE METAL.

Sensor seen here: https://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/433905_Temp_Sensor_1.jpg

Sender seen here: https://www.obd-codes.com/faq/images/ect-sensor.jpg

Yes it says sensor on that picture, lol, that's why people goof up

But you can see the difference in the tips

RonD,

Thanks so much, & for the quick reply.

I believe I have this figured out now thanks to you!

Ford gave me the wrong part even though we were looking right at the diagram
Autozone also gave me another wrong part which I have not yet installed(picture attached in hand)

The correct part should be the switch from autozone.
Should I put some tape on it, or can just leave bare?

If the sender has two wires then taping it is fine, it has its own ground wire.
If sender has only 1 wire then you can use tape but leave bottom two or three threads bare metal

Yes, very common to get ECT sensor by mistake, when ordering a sender
A sender works in 12volts
ECT sensor works on 5volts
So not interchangeable

Now, this is the type of Thread everyone should appreciate. The problem is stated and has photos, replies are very clear and well worded and make perfect sense. The "Fix" is made and photos of the often mixed up parts are shown. Everyone walks away happy and smarter. Good Job!

Haha yup.

BTW found what should be the correct part at advance [emoji16][emoji106]

Won't have to tape either.

Thanks everyone!!!
