I was curious, so I looked on Youtube. Wonder how much money is in that room.

There is a place right here in Midwest City Oklahoma for t hat kind of fun. They even have a drag strip for those so inclined. Must still be a Thing

No no no.. that's a money pit.
But not quite the depth of what a boat is.
Most hobbies are money pits and can take any amount of money you throw at them. If I wanted to get extremely serious about photography, I could easily surpass the value of my Ranger in camera equipment. When I was into model rockets, I was getting to the point where 1 flight could cost $300 or more, without destroying the rocket. $250 in propellant was easy. And I would spend a weekend in a hotel near the launch field, gas money for round trip, meals, sometimes flying 30 rockets of various sizes throughout the weekend, buy more kits and building supplies, tools, enclosed utility trailer to haul everything, 10ft x 20ft awning for shade….

yeah. Any hobby can be a major money pit.

Camera gear is insaaaane, even for the 'budget' stuff.

Camera gear reminds me of the guy that ran the luminous landscape website. I liked his articles because he covered how gear worked in situations like wearing gloves. Real practical. He died and his whole website is under pay to see.

He would use gear that just the lens would be over $10K. That was his level of equipment.

He once saw a "Funkycam" while in line at the grocery store for $20 or so. I think it was a fixed plastic lens with a 1 megapixel sensor or less. He bought it, took pictures and printed them off. He told the story of his experience with it and showed the pictures. The best part, keeping in mind the level of gear he always used, was that his wife picked up the prints from the Funkycam and mentioned that they were the best he had done for a while.
