Hey all,
Running into some issues with my ranger transmission. Long story short, swapped the valve bodies to take care of flare shift, bolt head broke off with the refurb in (classic, feel like a moron), now no gears. I'm getting it towed to a local transmission shop I know nothing about (besides online reviews) because my normal place doesn't wanna touch it.
Over the phone, they told me they'd diagnose, and hopefully it's just a valve body swap to get back to normal(ish). They did say I might need a rebuild though, which could check out as there was what looked like half of a brass washer in the pan when I dropped it along with some tiny metal cylinders. Can post pictures later if anyone wants to bite on that. Fluid was definitely ripe and darker, but wouldn't say burnt.
Anyways, they quoted around 3k for a rebuild with a 1 year 12k mile warranty. Looking around online, I saw plenty of remanufactured options for what may come out as a few hundred more after install, with seemingly better warranties. 30k mile, 3 year, etc.
Anyone have any input or suggestions on this situation? Any experiences with remanufactured transmissions?
4WD 2006 4.0 SOHC, 229xxx miles if any of that matters.
Thanks, I appreciate all of ya.
