Rebuild my 5R55E with 5R55S internals?

I have 2000 4.0 4x4 ranger with the 5r55E that has 270k on it and has started slipping or surging slightly on the 2-3 shift I believe. It’s from a stop if I’m light on the throttle it will slip then complete the shift @10-15ish mph.

I just saw a 5r55s pop up with under 100k for a steal at the price I would pay to pull one entirely at pick a part. It came out of a 2004 Lincoln Aviator.

My question is can I use some of the internals to rebuild my 5r55e?

looks like the S has no dipstick, is totally one piece and "just about" totally different... but that is from googling not 1st hand. That said, from a couple other threads it seems they suffer the same problems so might use the same internals..

I believe I’m just going to try to find a lower milage one to pull at a local junkyard to just swap out. It seems to be general consensus that the rebuilds on these do not have the same longevity as just finding a lower milage one to pull.
