Question about fuel tank filler hose

The old hose had a metal flange (about 2 " dia) that fit inside the tank. The new hose did not come with this. Looks like it is designed to keep the tank flange from collapsing as the hose clamp is tightened. Should I have transferred it over? Thanks.
