Does anyone know the correct size for this nut? I don't seem to have the correct socket and I dont want to buy an entire set.

Thanks in advance...

12 inch crescent:icon_rofl: Well, it measures out at either 1 1/4 or 1 5/16ths. Or metric looks like 32mm.

I think 1 5/16 would be the one you want. Sears sells their BF wrenches seperately too.

1 1/4" works but make sure its a decent socket or it may never come off again...previous owner of mine couldn't get it off so there was a 1 1/4" socket on my pitman nut for 2 years before I finally had to change the seal.

If the PO was pounding on the Pitman nut, perhaps that might explain your weird steering (chip caught in the sector teeth).

I keep a 1 5/16 3/4 inch socket and ratchet around for this. Along with 4 feet of cheater pipe. A 1/2 inch drive ratchet will do it, but the sockets don't seem to go bigger than 1 1/4. Maybe an axle nut socket might, I suppose; it's a bit under 34mm.
