So I went to change my injectors which wasn't too difficult until the cap of one of the injectors fell through the injector hole into the cylinder. I've now removed the lower intake manifold and had to remove the valve covers.

Do you think I will be able to reach into the cylinder with a grabbing tool and remove it without taking off the heads? I would replace the head gaskets since I'm almost there but money is kinda tight so I would like to avoid it. The gaskets on the valve covers and the lower intake manifold look good, but should I replace those too since I'm there, or could I get away with it?

I know this sounds stupid. I'm used to working on 2 stroke sleds so this is kinda new to me

If you're luck, it's still on top of the intake valve. With the lower intake removed, you may be able to grab it with a grabber. If the valve is closed, there is no need to remove the head under any circumstances. If it's open, do NOT close it unless you can see the entire "hat" or you might get it stuck between the valve and valve seat.

FYI, I recommend Ford OEM lower gaskets. They aren't as expensive as you might think, and are FAR better than the usual Fel-Pros. Same deal for valve cover gaskets (though not for the fuel rail and upper intake gaskets.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to pull the lower intake off today and see if I can get it. I'll pick up those gaskets too

think the 4.0's valves open far enough for an injector hat to fall through?

ill bet its still sitting on top of the valve...:icon_thumby:

I really doubt it could fall through, but I could see the lip get stuck in the valve seat. IMO, that's the worst case. That's why I advised against closing the valve if open. Obviously, if the valve is closed, there is NO WAY it will fall through.

If it's falling apart, pieces might fall through (though again, I doubt it). It's obviously broken; when good, those are a real PITA to get off.

Well I took a look and it was sitting on the closed valve :D so I just fished it out with some wire.

Thanks for the help guys now I just have to finish putting it all back together
