While tearing down my spare 2.8, I came across an engine sensor that I cannot identify. On the driver's side of the engine, just above where the oil pan bolts up, there are two sensors; the oil pressure sending unit is located just below the fuel pump & engine mount. The other is about 2/3 of the way back, towards the firewall, below Cylinder #5. It's on an extension (like the oil pressure sending unit). It doesn't seem to have access to any fluids (oil or water) as there's no hole in the block, or in the extension or in the sending unit.

Any ideas?

I can provide a picture of the broken sender, if no one has any idea to what I'm referring.

TIA

Yes, knock sensor.
