before i go swapping axle tubes is there any other way i can solve the little problem of the diff on the front rear being on the wrong side. The ranger rear is offset to the driver side the land rover is offset to the passenger side. imnot too worried about it being easier i just want the same end result. i want beefy rears under my truck. i have a worked 302 in it already kinda getting bored with it. a 400 mod just so happens to be sitting in my shop and before i go hacking and welding putting that in i want better rears. I just need some input pleasee.......:icon_hornsup:

I'd scrap that idea for reasons of expenses and parts availability.

If this is all brought up because you already have the axles, sell them, buy 1 ton American built running gear. Dana, Sterling, AAM. The parts are way cheaper, easier, and faster to get.

X2 I would also get something different to use.

I don't think the landrover axle would last more than five minutes behind a decent 302. A 8.8 or nine inch is way stronger and readily available.

I agree (and I have 2 Land Rovers). They are full float which is a plus, but the rear axle shafts are notorious for being weak. they are only 24 spline as opposed to 31 with the 8.8.

Thank you all. I anted to put them in because the rear case is bullet proof, ya know bullet proof rock proof. But going thru my stress test the rear prooved to not hold up to the 302. so deff not going to match up to the 400. When I get that back from the machine shop and put together its going in place of the 302 so anyone got an idea on what rears I might want to look out for that wont snap like a stick pretzel???

31 spline 8.8, 31 spline 9" if you drive it easy.

Dana 60, 10.5 Sterling, GM 14B if you let that 400 sing.
