All I could find is you go underneath and remove what they call the "trunnion bolt". I am guessing this is the bolt that the whole shifter pivots on. Then they say to put the lever in "D" position and then pull straight up. So it sounds like this would pull the handle and the shifter arm up as one assembly.

On my old 65 mustang it has a allen bolt facing forward that you loosen. But I am sure it is different than yours.

Thank you for your input.

The chrome collar on the bottom side will push down and release the handle

@ Franklin. I apologize to you sir. I have a FSM, and did not read comprehensively. The method to remove the shifter handle is to put the transmission in Drive position & pull straight up, if this force is insufficient, use a rubber mallet. I was trying to gain access to the actuator rod which is part number 7E148. It is a plastic part & was broken. Thanks again.
