So I've gotten my truck running pretty well. The main problem remaining is that after its warmed up, something downstream of the coil is breaking down and not transferring as much spark as it should. The coil wire going into the Dizzy produces a hot, white spark, but at the plugs its dull yellow, if at all. This causes a no-start. I think something inside the distributor is breaking down with heat, all components are new. It is a Durasparked 2.8. Ideas?

New plug wires, but they are quite small, I was thinking of trying out one of my buddys larger 8.0mm or 8.5mm wires. Are these distributors known for being heat sensitive? I dont think the module would effect the distributor output right?

Try the 8mm wire.I don't have issues with heat affecting the dizzy,I bought it rebuilt from napa.I bought the module new from napa as well.

I suppose the module could be a problem, but I would check wires, cap, rotor and coil first.Did you use junkyard parts or new/rebuilt?

New from napa, rebuilt dizzy if i remember, I can check tomorrow. I work there, so I get a sweet discount :icon_thumby: i'll try the plug wires, and try and isolate the problem with a blowdryer/heat gun.

It seems to run fine while hot, but if you shut it off it wont start again. Maybe i'll check a wire while running.

Are you running the original coil or the soda can style coil,I had issues with the soda can coil getting hot.Switched back to the original, then upgraded to the accel version of the original and it fires off with a tap of the key.

soda can style, i'm fairly certain its fine since the spark going into the distributor is bright and hot, coming out its quite dull/if at all

I will swap in my EEVI-v coil though, just to check

From what your saying, it sounds like vapor lock. My dads truck is that way sometimes when its warmed up.

i have seen a rotor that corroded between
the two metal parts so there was a bad
connection. try a new one even if
yours is new.

I'm also told to spray WD-40 under the cap to prevent moister build-up and corrosion build-up.

"Soda Can" coils come in at least two versions. One is designed specifically for the DuraSpark. The terminals are designed for a slide-on connector to the negative and positive. My first guess would be the rotor or cap, then the wires.
