im am new to this site but have visited many times working on my bronco 2 my new project is a 4x4 ranger with a 2.8.the truck has been sitting for 12 yrs have the gas tank removed.and was trying to get the fuel pump to pick up the gas from a gas can but i cant get fuel to the carb.the fuel pump was working when parked.could it have gone bad? if i have to replace the pump would an electric pump be better or the mechanical one i have never worked on a 2.8 just 2.9s btw the gas tank was rusted beyond repair

It's possible the fuel pump has gone bad,or the inlet hose is dry rotted, pumps are cheap enough at your local parts store.I would stick with mechanical pump, even though I find it to be a pain to change on the 2.8L.

After 12 years of sitting idle I would say change it,they are fairly cheap.

yea i just did mine monday, 26$ at napa. not very easy due to its location in the engine compartment. id stick w/ the mechanical but if you have any problems with vapor locking, a universal electric will somewhat lessen the chances of that. good luck.
