Fitch Fuel Catalyst Problems

Saw several good reviews in off-road mags last few years, so I bought and installed the unit several months ago on my '03 Ranger 4.0. Followed mfr's instructions about touching the pos & neg battery leads together to reset the computer. Result was about 2mpg worse mpg. Mfr was no help. Anyone try this item?

What is that supposed to do I have seen adds for it but never understood what it does also how many tanks are you basing the two mpg loss to
