I am in the process of making my own rear tube-bumper. All that is left now is paint. What would you recommend as a primer and paint brand? I have my heart set on flat black. What would you recommend for sanding and prep? Thanks in advance.

I just use rustoleum on everything I build. Rusty metal primer and gloss black.

Make sure there's no oil on the metal and hit it with some red oxide primer and then top coat with you choice of paint color. I personally like satin black over flat black.

it wouldnt hurt to hit it with a flapper wheel. like an 80 grit or something of that nature.

id say some 80 60 grit.. then a good primer then some vlaspar tractor enamel .. awesome paint.

If you like the flat black color, go for their(rustolium) truck bed coating. It sprays nice, even, and it dries fast. Plus, it's a flat black color(sandy texture) and it resists nicks and scrapes better than paint.

Try some on a scrap piece of metal, I think you'll like it...............................:icon_thumby:
