Well I decided not to go full 4by with this truck because its too much work for me, so I decided to just swap in an explorer axle, will the drive shaft bolt up to u-joint (I believe that's what its called, if not please let me know the correct term)

no it wont a explorer has a 31 spline and the ranger has a 28 spline. u have to swap something ot get it custom made im not quite sure.i have looked into it but haven't quite figured out how to do it. I just know it wont bolt right up unfortunately. there is a forum in the technical info section it talks all about it.

You need to get the explorer axle flipped, have shock tabs put on, and then you need the correct U-bolts and driveshaft flange. You can use the rear flange from the explorer on the ranger U-joint. I used fx4 level 2 ubolts and plates.

On my '85 I had to have the driveshaft flange drilled and tapped for the much smaller u-joints that they put on the older trucks.

You could also upgrade driveshafts too, mine is a long box which makes finding a shaft out of a later truck kinda hard.
