I have a 98 with the 2.5. I just bought it and put a new timing belt in it today and got it running. Engine will start and once the idle comes down it does. Would this be the IAC valve? Plus it throws code P1451. Evap solenoid circuit. Is the solenoid by the battery and connects to the intake vacuum? Also, the pcm harness has been spliced together. I have a 97 with the 2.3. Will the 97 harness work on the 98? Only thing I’ve noticed is different is the mass airflow connector on the 97 is round and the 98 is oval. 97 is automatic and 98 is manual.

If it ran ok before you changed the belt, something happened when you changed the belt. I would double check everything again, and also it's very easy to get the belt off a tooth. If you set the belt up perfectly with the slack on the wrong side, and then put tension on it, the slack will go to the other side and throw it off.

Sometimes you can tell the belt is off by checking the timing. The evap code is something I would not worry about till later or never, unless you have to pass inspection.

I got the truck without a belt. Risky I know. I triple checked the belt and had the slack on the passenger side. Rotated the engine about six times total and marks lined up. Engine files smooth. I’m going to check vacuum lines and am planning on putting the egr and AIC valve from my 2.3 since both parts I installed new last year.

P1451 is canister vent solenoid circuit, vent solenoid is mounted to the canister above the spare tire.

Can you keep it running with throttle?
