hello i have a 89 ranger supercab with 2.9 v6 fm146 and a bw1350 with 3.73 gears what i need to know is who or where can i find the ring and pinion for a dana28 with 3.73 in it i got some teeth busted on mine cant find them new or does anyone have a complete center section for a dana 28 with 3.73 that they want to sell for a resonable price?:annoyed:

Replace it with a Dana 35 TTB (~92-97, '95-'97 will have better brakes), grab the front driveshaft out of the donor vehicle too (gen 1 explorers will work as well, 91-94). 3.73 geared units are everywhere, and is superior in every way to the Dana 28, including parts availability.

Did that on my '84. It's not all that hard.

dang; I just scrapped 3 sets of 3.73's gears like 2 months ago. One was complete axle hub to hub and then 2 extra sets of gears. Dang... I would have gave them to you for cost of shipping.

well 4.0b2 thats just my luck and for the other that posted i dont want to swap front axle cause i just put all new seals and bearings and brakes on it only thing i didnt do is new gears which i now need . the guy before me was running 33x12.50x15 super swampers on it and broke the dr side outer stub shaft off where the hub is so i believe thats what caused the gear problem lol it has all new ball joints and tierods and everything about 300 in parts thanks jason

hey captain ledd that 84 ranger must be something else i see you have a 6 foot lift lol must be a tall guy i believe you meant 6 inch lift you put ' insted of " lol

Ah, yes. That would definitely make finding another center section more worthwhile.

You're the first person to notice that LOL, yeah it's quite a jump. Finding parking spaces is hard because I need the aircraft stair trailer to get up in it LOL.

It might take a while to snag one, as most people end up just throwing them out. Every so often they pop up. if you really can't wait:

(he wants $165, he isn't going to get it. See what he says for $50)

Other than that, patience and dedicated watchful eye on the site. You might get lucky in a junkyard though, often older un-modded Rangers/BII's come in. They're getting to be 25-30 years old now, should be at least a few around.

well thanks for helping captain ledd i seen on the one website you linked to me they do still sell them i think i might go ahead and order a new set cause im going to get a bran new set in the 7.5 in the rear and i got new u joints and everything just trying to make the old gal more reliable and how do i tell for sure that they are 3.73 the door sticker says they are but not 100% sure it has an older 7.5 in it cause it has no abs sensor hole for my abs lol

i have a 3.73 pig, but im 300 miles from ya haha. i hate to have to ship bigger stuff like this but i suppose i can try to get a quote figured out if youre interested.

*PM me if interested, just in case i forget to check this thread*

If they still have the axle tags on one of the differential cover bolts:

Method 2 is for absolute certainty, on the ring gear there will be 2 numbers (45-11), divide the larger number by the smaller number (in this case, a 4.09 ratio). These are the tooth counts on the ring gear and the pinion gear.

*edit: I had a feeling pirate would block the picture, replaced it and edited description.
