So I have a 2003 ford ranger with 4.0 that the cab and core support are totaled. The engine, drive train, frame etc are all in order. Rather then attempting body work trying to repair this I have a complete parts truck. However the engine in that truck is a 3.0. I would like to take that cab and slap it onto my 4.0 frame. Before going at this completely blind has anyone else done this? I would assume ecu, ignition, and possibly some fuse boxes will need to be swapped. Does any one have a guide or any pointers on doing this?

Thanks

from the legal standpoint, the VIN attached to the cowl is the official identifier of a vehicle.
if you swap the cab you now have a legally different vehicle.
check your laws and proceed with caution.
FYI, swapping or altering VIN tags is illegal.

the actual swap should be doable. I recommend a factory wiring book.
the keys need to match the correct ECU because of the PATS security system.

This.

Also, if I mind right, the PATS in both of them is only the ECU and keys, so swap the ignition cylinder and computer to stay matched.
