I've seen the multiple threads from people that replace their carpet with bedliner and say it was a bad idea. What about applying the bedliner then putting the carpet back in after its cured? I saw one thread where they mentioned applying some sound deadener before the bedliner, any input on yeah or no?

What's the point of doing that? You're not gaining much, if any sound deadening with bedliner and carpet. It's clearly not being used for durability in that application...so it seems that it would be a waste of time & money.

Sound deadener + bedliner - even more pointless IMO. Just do the sound deadener by itself and put carpet over it.

I think most people that complain about bedliner on their floor pans didn't prep it right and it's coming off, or they used cheap bedliner and it's coming off, or are unhappy with the noise. In our trucks there is also wiring that runs under the carpet in several spots so if you're not prepared to do something about that, it is pretty easy to damage it over time.

fair enough. my factory sound deadening was coming off in several spots but ive got plenty of diy stuff from another auto project.

My Bronco II had sound deadener in it when I bought it. I'm switching it from carper to vinyl flooring. Makes better sense to me for what I want to do with it.

Why not put a vinyl floor in it? It would solve the sound deadening issue and give you a mostly waterproof floor.

From what I’ve read pretty much everywhere, vinyl isnt a good idea if I live somewhere with a lot of humidity. Traps moisture under it and rusts out the floor since it can’t breath like carpet

It’ll rust anyway if you live somewhere with a lot of humidity.

It’ll rust if you park it on the grass.

It’ll rust if you live somewhere where the temperature changes enough to cause condensation.

It’ll rust if you drive on roads treated for ice in the winter.

Pretty much if you live anywhere besides a hermetically sealed box it’ll rust

And once you're gone,
You can never come back

It's better to burn out
Than it is to rust

Rust Never Sleeps

Fair enough. Guess my thoughts were because I have some bedliner left over from another project and have a carpet pressure washed and scrubbed from another ranger. Plus plenty of sound deadening supplies.
