i have to replace the battery in my ranger was thinking about going up a size or 2. I live in Connecticut and the winters have been colder. I had a group 56 in it, and before that I ran an optima red top group 35 that lasted 16 years. Don’t really have the cash for an optima and I hear there not as good as they used to be.
What size are you guys running?

65 series fits perfectly in the tray… I’ve been running Duralast Gold batteries in my rigs for awhile now. Fun fact, 65 series is what the OBS F-series trucks used as well, so for me it’s nice enough that I converted my 00 green Ranger to take a 65 series battery, which means every truck I own uses the same battery now.

I just got a 65 and it doesn’t fit the stock tray?!
Ended up goin with a group 24

Weird… I’ve had 65 series in my 88 Bronco II, 89 Bronco II (sold), 89
Bronco II Choptop, and 92 Ranger…

I would’ve had to bend out the sides of the tray. Maybe it was just the manufacturer of the battery the bottom of the case was different? I definitely probably could’ve made it work, the group 56 are hard to find for some reason. I probably would’ve went with a redtop again if I didn’t have a whole laundry list of other stuff to fix on this truck 😂

I don’t remember having to modify the tray in my 88…

The second Gen’s it dropped in and the retainer bolted in like that’s how it was supposed to be. My 00 Ranger I used an Explorer battery tray

Probably was just the battery I got, I went to a place that sold refurbished batteries. The bottom of the battery case had areas that where preventing it from fitting in the tray,

Group 65 batteries do NOT fit 83-88 battery trays without bending the sides out.

I think I used a Group 24F battery in my crawler, it fits perfectly. Can't remember what I used on the stepside truck, it was either a 24F or 25.

24F here. It's cheap at Wally World. I expected it to die last winter. It's 5 years old now.
