iv kinda dreamed about this for a long time. i was thinking a geo tracker would make a good doner. light weight, ok in the cargo dept. 4wd and 5.12 gears. and open engin compartment.

that and i work at night, 5 miles from my house and i could plug it in all night, and with 400 boats all pulged in they wouldnt even know im there.

there are also a large amount of 4 seater electric golf carts that are "dead" for one reason or another. if the motor are usefull

This is the one that me and a couple of friends built, its pretty sweet for a couple kids in there late teens, huh?

What about an electic Forklift motor?

Or useing a Forklift as a whole donor? Battery and all?

On the other side of this though...how would an electric vehicle deal with things like water crossings and mud?

That is one sick electric ranger...ive never seen an all electric one. That would be great to putter around town in.

most electric forklifts are a little low on low horsepower to be viable EV donors. your going to need something in the 60-70hp rating range to get any kind of stock-ish performance out of an EV.

as far as water crossings, i dont think the motor would be much effected by fresh water (mud may be a problem, but filters could probably be implimented). the batteries couldnt care less if they get wet. the controller would have to stay dry...but it can be mounted pretty much anywhere on the vehicle.

But if it was a trail only truck top speed wouldnt really matter would it?

They must make a ton of torque to be able to move a 8000lb empty lift plus another 4000lbs of load.

I dontknow, it was just an idea....and would work a helluva lot better then a golf cart motor

I don't work on electric cars but I've become pretty decently versed in electric bikes, power wheels and the like at my job. In fact I got a box of parts from a wrecked e-bike that I'm turning into a go cart

Jim I helped out here with a DC motor ranger. It wieghs a ton and has to have a limiter from tearing up the rear end (well if you let it go to the stock 7.5 all at once instead of a progressive rate). It does not last long on battery power, but is nice a tourqey (sp), and feels nice all around.
