I’ve got a 1994 ford ranger 4.0 with no cats. What is a good muffler for it? I belive mine is factory. No I don’t want it sounding like a fart cannon either. If that is all I’ve got then I’ll just leave it stock. Anybody have experience with this one?

Looks like a generic Thrush style. I don’t like them because they seem to rot fast around here. I went to welded mufflers rather than those crimped seam ends. Anymore I’m mostly Flowmaster 40/super 44 unless it’s a v-8, then it’s Magnaflow.

It's hard to get away from that ricer sound with a six cylinder. Even the ecoboost turbo sixes they have now sound like a ricer.

IMO barring very unusual circumstances 4 and 6 cylinders are best seen and not heard.

I don't know. My 98 had a single inlet dual outlet on it with dual exhaust out the rear. With no cats. Sound pretty throaty when on the gas. Not much difference at idle. It had a slight drone if I remember correctly but I was a lot younger so I just made the stereo louder haha.

Thrush is Walkers lower line now, I have a Dynomax Super Turbo behind the 351 in my Ranger. A loud muffler on a six cylinder sounds like a flatulent cow, a cat in front of a turbo muffler would act like a resonator and help with that.

Cologne engines sound really good with a Flowmaster flowFX. They're euro sounding (cologne is a euro engine) if you're into that sort of thing (I am).

On my turbo ranger I got a Thrush Welded muffler, I really like how it sounds, doesn't sound like a 4 cylinder (or at least not obnoxious), but the rotary muffler helps that... Over the years I've had to weld it back together a couple times from fatigue but it wasn't well supported for a long time and well it's been on there for 15 years now...
