A fake windshield?

So I just got a '93 Explorer Sport today, but it's got no glass in it, windshield, side, rear... nothing, it's fine as it's going to be an off-road rig only, but I'de really like to get some kind'a windshield in it. However I don't really wanna pay $200 bucks to get replacement glass just to keep mud off me, that will problbly just get broken first time I tip the thing over.

So my question is this: Is it possable to make plexiglas or something work? has anyone done it before or does anyone know what kind would work best?

If you use plexi glass you might want to put some strips of metal behind it welded or bolted what ever to the pinch weld. Id run them vertically to reinforce it, so it doesn't come inside the cab when driving. You might want to put in a roll cage also because the windshield adds a lot of strenght to the cab.

Very true, hadn't even thought about those points, does anyone know what kind of place would sell plastic windshields? or atleast large enough peices of plexiglass to use for one?

you can get 4x8 sheets of plexiglass. Try your local hardware store.

One alternative would be to make a smaller "windshield" that sits in front of you. Ages ago we used plexi on a 1/2 angle iron frame, mounted between the "dash" and the roof, inside the car. It was about 18x24 for our application, 1/4 in thick. Easy to replace. Now that Lexan is around, maybe I'd go with that.
