help. I twisted off the yokes in my left front drive axle and I can't get the inner axle shaft out of the diff. it moves in and out about a 1/4 inch but it won't come out. any ideas?

left side

left side = drivers side. I have a replacement axle and I know they should slide out, but mine won't. any ideas?

I have pulled hard. I just drilled and tapped a 5/16" 18 hole in the end of the old axle, screwed a threaded rod into it and proceeded to pull the threaded rod in two. I don't know whats going on. it is the left (drivers side) and it moves in and out about a quarter inch but won't come out. I considered tearing the whole thing apart but the axles have to come out before I can do that. I love this truck the other day it started at -20F without being plugged in. I hate to get rid of it but if I can't get this axle out Im about to. please help

Can you drill and tap a bigger hole? Or perhaps find a grade 8 threaded rod, maybe at a tractor supply. The threaded rod you used was probably only grade 2 or 3 and wouldn't be very strong. You could also try to find a long grade 8 bolt and use a slide hammer on the head of it.
Good luck,

Richard

Can you see what it's hitting? Maybe the yoke splayed apart a bit when it broke, so it now can't fit through the hole in the knuckle?

Maybe a hammer or pry bar might work., Or if you can get a grinder in there and grind the yoke down...

If worse gets to worse, swap a Dana35 under it. The D35's shafts, yokes and other parts all dwarf those of your D28.
