I have a 1994 4.0L ranger automatic. Its been reall cold here for the last month and when I start the truck after it has been sitting all night and try to put it into gear it often stalls. I let it warm up for 5-10 minutes before I even attempt to put it into gear and it still stalls. After the truck has been driven for a few miles the problem goes away. Any idea why its doing this?

how do u drive it for a couple miles if u cant get it in gear to drive it? not being a ass just seeing how u did get it in gear

What kind of mileage has it been getting? It seems engines tend to react worse to air / fuel mixture problems when they're cold. CEL present?

Pete

mine does the same thing, it starts right back up and almost no problem after that but when i back out of my parking spot in the morning and shift into drive it stalls out. but mine is way over due for sparkplugs so i just things thats my problem

After it stalls the first time and I start it back up it goes into gear without stalling, but barely.

I have definately noticed it is getting worse mileage, somewhere around 14 im guessing. Sorry but what is CEL?
