4.0 Performance

Hi H.P. nice to see you hear. I am on your side. I have lots of dyno time to prove most of your thoughts.

as for power output. the highest 4.0 in a ranger that I know of is 333. i don't recall the torque. maybe H.P will recall.

the simplest and cheapest way to go is CAT-BACK. I put a Flowmaster system on my '91 4.0 and it really helps sound, even with a 50 series Delta. It DOES give you noticeable performance...Gibson makes one for your '06 Single or Dual pipes...around 383 from Summit. Also think about headers (of course) JBA has them. kinda pricey (Stainless=$460, Coated=$545). DO NOT GET PACESETTER!!!! A custom CAI does work. Mine is a Spectre. About $100 for mock-up kit and the actual tubes and filter. TBS dosen't work but it does make the truck sound like it's Boosted! lol Maybe a JET tuner module...good for maybe 5 to 10. about $250, maybe not... I just ordered an Ignition upgrade to help with future add-ons. Even try shedding weight for the truck. probaly not gonna do much but everything will add up.

Certain things are universal for more horsepower such as:

  1. Better intake
    • Colder, denser air
  2. Better exhaust
    • Reduce back pressure(heat) on the engine
  3. Better spark
    • This will be needed to ignite fuel under higher engine loads
  4. Higher octane
    • This will let you run a higher compression ratio
  5. Higher compression ratio
    • Just mill your heads down to the limits of the octane you use(higher C.R. = higher combustion efficiency)

Well that's the short list. I'll just sit back and take all the "constructive" criticism. :c-n:
I tried to list this in order of completion. Doing this list in reverse order is a bad idea.
