Sorry if this has already been asked didn’t see it.. bought a 99 ranger 4x4 4.0 and noticed the oil dipstick and tube are missing. From what I can tell it mounts on the driver side (which is the side I have a nasty oil leak from but don’t know the source, yet) does anyone have a diagram or pictures of where the oil dipstick tube mounts, may be the cause of my leak but I don’t see an open hole or a pinched off tube.

Do you think this is like yours? It's a 97 OHV 4.0.

Is that some kind of training engine? Or careful use of leftover paint?

Obviously it's nicely done, just wondering why that color scheme?

I would not know, I stole the picture off the internet.

The 4.0 SOHC should be about the same but I don't think the '99 had the SOHC as an option.

Did you ever find a source for a new dipstick?

The handle on mine just broke and I can't seem to find a replacement.

The SOHC will fit the tube but it's 2" longer. The top hole of the new one will line up with the bottom hole of the old one. You will have to cut it, drill a new hole and file crosshatch into it. Easy enough. Either that or try finding one at a junk yard or online parts finder.

Thanks! I just pulled the old dipstick and the number on the stick does not match what Ford says it should be. The broken one is labeled F57-6750-EB. From what I find on Ford, they say it should be F87Z-7A020-EA. But they don't list a length.

My stick measures 20.5 inches from the bottom of the plastic handle to the tip of the blade.

I bought a cheap stick from Amazon today that has roughly the same measurements.

I like your idea of getting a SOHC and modifying it. I'll pick one up today. Do you know the Part Number?

THANKS! Russ

Here's the old dipstick. 20.5 inches from the base of the handle to the tip.

21 and 1/2 from the rim of the handle where the dipstick tube would stop it, to the tip
