picked up a rear axle from a 2010 reg cab last week.
it has big tubes & bearings, but its only 28 splines.
the shafts mic at 1.619" definitely the big bearings.
8.8 with disks, the flange holes are 3" vertical, 2" horizontal and use SAE bolts.
say what? 3/8 x 24 bolts with 9/16" heads held the disk plates on.
paper axle tag is S314D, the metal tag was missing. door code 97.

looks like I'm on the hunt for 31 spline shafts now if I get a selectable locker.

I would like to emphasize this axle came from 2WD truck. I have no idea what's in a 4WD axle.

Pics or it didn't happen. Of the spline ends of the axle shafts.

No, he is right. Th 10-12 Rangers had bigger bearings and disc brakes on a 28 spline shaft.

In fact the only thing I found surprising about that post was the SAE bolts.

The metal tag isn't missing, it just isn't there. Ford stopped using them in favor of a sticker wrapped around the passenger axle tube.

I checked and double checked the bolts. 10 x 1 mm is very close to 3/8 X 24, infact some nuts that are loose on tolerance will fit both bolts.
compared it using taps and thread chasers.
the flange pattern being rotated 90* to vertical is going to cause me some issues, I want to stay with drums instead of re-plumbing the brakes for 4 wheel ABS.
its going into a 2000, that rear has a common line to both wheels.

Question, do 95-01 Explorers have 4 wheel ABS, or a common line to the rear? that would be a simple master cylinder & proportioning swap.

You can retain the disc brakes without going to 4WABS.

You can also have 4WABS on a 3-channel system. A 4 channel is only needed for traction control or other advances systems.

95-01 Explorers had 4WABS as an option. My truck came with NOWABS, and when I did my rear disc swap I used a 95 Explorer non-abs master cylinder and have had somewhere in the area of 0 problems. The biggest thing I had to deal with was getting my lines adapted to fit the master, which I did end up finding adapters to make it happen.

good info.
I checked Oriellys listings. my 2000 Ranger MC is the same as a 2000 EX 2dr. a T adapter on the axle should do the trick.
