Hi everyone, my 2002 3.0 V6 2WD has been discharging at what seems to be a steady 0.2 A. This may have have started a few weeks ago when I changed the oil and accidentally briefly shorted it between the starter motor and the oil filter. Or maybe it’s always been like this.
After changing the oil, I started the truck, ran it, and checked the oil. All good. Then the truck sat for 3 weeks before I tried to start it (which is unusual.) Nothing. 4 volts. The interstate battery was 1 year old. Tried charging it, but neither of my chargers would even initiate a charge, probably because the voltage was too low. Battery was 0.5 volts a few days later.
Now I have a new battery (12.59v) and checked the current before totally committing to bolting it in. It’s pulling a steady 0.2 amps (2.5 watts), which I’m not sure is normal or not. Seems low, but also higher than I expected. Key off, doors closed. No accessories or dome light running. Just the computer(s) and maybe radio, which may require something for its memory.
What’s a normal standby current?
In the meantime, I guess I’ll be pulling fuses and taking measurements.
