I have a- wait for it- 1984 Ford ranger. V6 2.8L RWD. The trans in it is a tk5 (I think) the has been rigged to the point of being unrecognizable. The fifth gear and reverse are absolutely gone. Won't even catch. So. I have found a m5od r1 off a 92 Vulcan 3.0. Will the m5 work on my truck?

The Lima 4-cylinder engines have their own bell pattern, and are not the same as any v-6.

Do they make an adapter plate that you know of? I really need this transmission to work

Well. Do y'all think it would be a better idea to rebuild it? I'm no pro, but I'm pretty mechanically intelligent. But that job would be way out of my league. And these machine and auto shops want 700$ to do it plus parts. What would be your recommendation? Are there trannies from other vehicles that'll work other than the fords?

There's really no good way to make the 3.0 Mazda work for your purposes. Best bet is to sell it and find a 2.9 or 4.0 Mazda instead.

Do you know that it needs a rebuild? I'm guessing you have a broken 5th/reverse shift fork (or something going on with the linkage). Those parts all live in the extension housing. It's not really a quick diy job, but could be repaired short of rebuilding the entire transmission.

I was going to rebuild it any way. While the fifth/ reverse synchros and forks are screwed, the shifter has too much play, and I can feel the other gears slipping.
