I have a 1999 Ranger 4.0 liter with a cracked head. Does anyone know if the heads from a 1992 will work. I know that the exhaust ports are larger but I have headers now that will allow for the increased port size. I dont see any other differences between these heads. If anyone has preformed this swap in the past your input would be appreciated. Thanks

They'll swap, but be prepared for a significant drop of power as your compression ratio will change from 9:1 to approx 8.2:1 - the pre 95 heads have much larger combustion chambers. Not recommended to swap just one side this way.

Just get a complete, assembled 98 head from Alabama Cylinder Heads.

Thanks for all the input. I have found a set of heads off of a 98 explorer that I am going to use after I get the valves touched up and the decks resurfaced. Great site with a lot of very useful information!
