1993 4.0 2wd automatic tranThis is the first ford ranger ive ever owned. Got it second hand in a crank, no start condition. But would fire on starter fluid. Started digging and found the computer would not close the fuel pump relay upon key on. Also once cranking I had spark but no injector pulse. So after chasing wiring i finally condemned the computer as the issue and removed it.
Now my question is, what exactly is this that burned up? And where can I source a new computer for this truck?
Appreciate any help!

That looks like the common leaky capacitor. I'd guess the electrolyte conducted current to other circuits. Pretty toasty...

That was my assumption but just wanted a second opinion from someone with more experience than myself. Especially with this being the first one ive ever dealt with.

Those leaky caps usually have drivablity issues long before a thermal event like that.

If you grab a used ECM for it... pop it open and check those caps. If leaky... you can replace them. There is some how to info floating around on the site.

Good luck!
